Iteration in the complex plane

Image

After being a math teacher for quite a while I finally broke down and became a member of NCTM. –long overdue–
The first Mathematics Teacher that came to me had this article on complex numbers and math art. I loved it and made my own excel document to make it happen. This pic is my favorite Math art I’ve created this way so far, but you can make some pretty amazing and beautiful drawings. The article, “Iteration in the Complex Plane”, by Robin S. O’Dell was found in the April 2014 edition of Mathematics Teacher. My students are working on their own pieces of art this week.
